Mainau  Island is the first stop we made along the Lake of Konstance. It is an island turned into an enormous garden by a nobleman. The church is the main one on the island. Very beautiful. It sprinkled light rain on us but we didn’t mind much.

Had we been there just a month or so later, everything would be in full bloom.  There were enough early blossoms to still be enjoyable. I’ve found some flowers I’d like to plant back home but have to find out if I am allowed to bring the seeds back through customs.

Both of us loved the tropical greenhouse with every known type of orchid known to man. Had to laugh at some of the giant trees planted on the island. One of them is an enormous redwood from “the country of California” –so says the English portion of the sign.
