Going to Germany

I had to laugh. In San Francisco, we noticed a taco truck selling tacos and burritos outside an animal hospital. Maybe it’s my sick sense of humor, but I thought that looked wrong in a silly-morbid way. I’m not saying that’s where they got their taco meat from but one can’t help but wonder. ;)

Anyway, the flight to Frankfurt went smoothly and we landed forty minutes early. Both of us are dog tired, not able to sleep much on the eleven hour flight. My healing fever blister bled off and on the whole way. Talk about embarrassing!

I’ve been watching the online weather reports of Boblingen for a couple of weeks and knew to expect it to be cooler. I didn’t expect snow!  It’s been snowing with the sun out all afternoon. The front desk clerk told us this is the first snowstorm they’ve had all winter and that it started on Easter.

We picked up the rental car (an Audi) and drove a couple of hours from Fankfurt to Boblingen. The first things I noticed on the drive are 1) lots of tiny cars—I didn’t see any pickups or SUV’s, even when watching from the hotel window.  2) The pine trees here grow tall but the lower trunks are relatively bare. Think of a Christmas tree on a 50 foot trunk pole. 3) You can buy Bacardi and coke in a can, the way beer is sold in the states. 4) There’s a gaming store across the street from our hotel.

We had dinner at Schonbuch Platzhirsch, a brewery restaurant. There are some pictures of the interior. Once back at the hotel, we discovered there is a tradition:  to drink a schnapps with the clerk. William had the ‘mens’:  a raspberry shot he had to slam back. I got a honey schnapps, one of the ‘women’s choices’ which is supposed to help relieve cold symptoms. I don’t know about that but it tasted good sipped.

Check out the photos for today.

Not much exciting. Just touristy stuff like us in San Francisco, us in Germany and a few shots of the hotel window view. If you haven’t already, and want me to send you a postcard, email me your snail mail addy at kim-richards at kim-richards dot com.
