This is something both cool and creepy at the same time. In my upcoming book, Death Masks, the serial murderer makes a mask of each victim. Naturally, I wanted a mask depicted in the book video trailer. And so these are pics of a plaster mask I made of myself this afternoon. Since I was alive during the casting (and still am), this is a 'life mask' instead of a true 'death mask'. But we're not going all out for realism here.

I only remember thinking about how cold the plaster felt on my skin as it dried and of searching around me to pet my cat. He is always my supervisor! The expression on the eyes and mouth really struck me. I hadn't tried to make it so but this is exactly what I envisioned. 

Tonight my face is very soft. I attribute that to the half hour or so with a thick layer of petroleum jelly covering the skin. And, no...I did not cover the under nostril until after I removed it.
